HWPL’s Peace Education in Nepal started at Asphodel Public School

On Thursday, November 9, 2023, peace education was conducted at Asphodel Public School for 68 students in grades 8 to 10. This training was hosted by the Peace Education Department of HWPL (Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light) and conducted by Hyeju Park, worker of IPYG(International Peace Youth Group). The educator conducted lesson 1 of HWPL’s peace textbook for students and provided a demonstration so that teachers at the school could provide peace education to students in the future.

Through lesson 1 of the peace textbook, students thought about why they should learn peace through all things in nature. They also looked into Nepal’s diverse cultures and languages and learned why and how to embrace diversity. They also learned about the importance of valuing each other and working together. They learned that because there are various cultures, religions, and values around the world, we must communicate and respect each other in order to stop wars and conflicts around the world.

Through the training, one student asked the educator what he could do as a student to become a messenger of peace. The educator praised that it was a very good question and responded by saying that in the future, students should receive peace education, focus on values such as forgiveness, consideration, and sacrifice, and apply these lessons to real life. She also suggested that the student join the peace club and participate in various activities. After the training, teachers at this school said they understood how to teach peace education to students in the future.

This peace education began in Nepal in 2021 with a meeting between HWPL and Vice Principal Biva Kalika Malla Shrestha, founder of Asphodel Public School. The HWPL worker first provided peace education to her vice principal, and she said she would like to teach this education to school teachers as well. Accordingly, HWPL conducted peace teacher training for 14 school teachers at Asphodel Public School from August 22, 2023 to October 13, 2023. After completing this training, certificates of completion were awarded to 14 teachers.

In 2024, the HWPL Peace Education Department plans to conduct peace education through teachers in cooperation with Asphodel Public School to train students into citizens of peace. In addition, HWPL is preparing to support peace education by signing MOUs with schools seeking peace education in Nepal.
