Kathmandu: In order to make Bagmati river conservation campaign effective, ‘River Festival and Mahajalayatra’ has been completed in Bagmati river.
A rafting trip was organized by Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA), Nepal River Conservation Organization and Friends Club Kupandol today at 7 o’clock in the morning from Bagmati Bridge to Sundarighat in Kupandol.
Shishir Khanal, vice president of Nara, said that the river festival and Mahajayatra were held to identify, protect and promote the Bagmati river civilization, as well as to expose rafting and water tourism.
Mahajalayatra was organized as the 23rd edition of the Bagmati River as well as the city of Kathmandu due to its polluted environment. Lately activists have been conducting various campaigns saying that the beautiful and important Bagmati river with its social and religious history has been turned into a sewer.
The slogan said that the water journey which started with Bajagaza brought everyone closer to the river, explained the condition of the river, introduced the river and created a situation to care about them. On the same occasion, the participants also cleaned the river.
