Writ against appointment of Koshi Chief Minister on “continuous hearing”

The writ petition filed in the Supreme Court against the appointment of the Koshi Chief Minister has been put on “continuous hearing” on Tuesday.

The applicant side’s legal practitioners put forth their argument during the hearing in the full bench of Justices Ishwar Prasad Khatiwada, Dr. Ananda Mohan Bhattarai and Til Prasad Shrestha on Tuesday. The case was put on “continuous hearing” after the defendant’s side was unable to conclude their argument.

The joint bench of Justices Sushmalata Mathema and Til Prasad Shrestha had previously given the order to send the writ to the full bench on Monday.

A writ petition was filed in the Supreme Court on July 7 on behalf of former Chief Minister and UML Parliamentary Party leader Hikmat Kumar Karki, alleging that Congress Parliamentary Party leader Uddhav Thapa was unconstitutionally appointed Chief Minister.

Karki filed a writ petition against the Provincial Chief Parshuram Khapung, Chief Minister Thapa, and Speaker Baburam Gautam, saying that the signature of Speaker Gautam was also used for the formation of the government. In the writ petition, Karki has also requested the order to appoint himself as the Chief Minister.
