HamroPusta Marks Three Years of Independent Digital Journalism in Nepal

KathmanduHamroPusta, an independent Nepali digital news platform recognized for its alternative and analytical reporting, has completed three years since its establishment. The platform was founded on December 19, 2019, under Pusta Media Pvt. Ltd., with the objective of promoting fact-based and non-promotional journalism in Nepal.

At a time when Nepal’s media landscape was largely dominated by traditional and mainstream narratives, HamroPusta entered the digital space with a distinct editorial mission: to provide in-depth and evidence-driven reporting on public policy, education, labor, governance, and social justice—areas often underrepresented in mainstream coverage.

Commitment to Alternative, Fact-Based Journalism

HamroPusta was founded by Ratna Bahadur Sunuwar, a media professional active in Nepal’s journalism sector. Explaining the platform’s founding vision, Sunuwar said:

“We wanted to create a space that prioritizes substance over sensation—where facts, not just headlines, drive the news.”

Since its launch, the portal has emphasized document-based reporting and transparent sourcing, maintaining an editorial policy that avoids advertorial content and unverified information.

Legal Status and Operations

The platform is officially registered with Nepal’s Department of Information and Broadcasting and holds press accreditation from the Press Council Nepal. Its editorial head office is located in Birendranagar–10, Surkhet.

From a technical perspective, HamroPusta operates on the WordPress content management system (CMS) and employs structured data schema and search engine optimization tools. The portal is also listed on Google News, supporting broader digital reach.

Coverage and Editorial Focus

Over the past three years, HamroPusta has developed a dedicated readership by focusing on underreported and public-interest issues, including:

  • Education reform and public education policy

  • Labor migration and migrant workers’ rights

  • Local government performance and budget transparency

  • Social justice and inclusion

  • Critical analysis of national economic policies

Among its notable reports are in-depth coverage of the 2025 Teachers’ Protest, analytical reporting on the Nepal Electricity Authority, and detailed examinations of federal budget allocations and their impact at the local level.

According to the platform, editorial practices at HamroPusta are guided by principles of fact-checking, neutrality, and transparency, aligning its reporting approach with recognized standards of public-interest journalism.
