Kathmandu—Five police officials, including former AIG Shyamlal Gyawali, have withdrawn their petition filed with the Supreme Court. Gyawali, along with DIGs Yagya Binod Pokharel, Kedar Dhakal, Rajesh Nath Bastola, and Inspector Nagendra Thakur, had submitted the petition seeking to halt their retirement due to age limits. The initial hearing took place before Justice Saranga Subedi.
The senior officials decided to withdraw after the Supreme Court did not issue an interim order against retirement based on age limits. According to the Police Regulation, 2071 (2014), there are provisions for retirement based on age. The high-ranking officials had requested the removal of this regulation.
DIG Rajesh Nath Bastola confirmed the withdrawal of the petition to Ratopati, stating, “We have withdrawn the petition.” According to the Police Regulation, inspectors retire at the age of 52, while DIGs and AIGs retire at 56. Shyamlal Gyawali reached the age limit and retired on September 10.
